For Whom Eight Belles Tolls

by

I think the Hungry Hungry Hippos just came in second at the Kentucky Derby, and someone needs to shoot us to put us out of our misery.

I never did learn what a doldrum was.

Sorry I haven’t been around more. Actually, I have been around; I just haven’t had anything to say. The prez race became too painful to even watch, much less discuss. Nothing’s really changed elsewhere in politics — the Dem leadership in congress is still terrible, W is still doing his W thing, we’re still in Iraq, the rule of law is still in eclipse, etc. — and I’ve already said basically everything I know to say about all that.

I thought about posting something about the goofy gas tax holiday John and Hillary McCain proposed, but when it came down to it, it just wasn’t worth the effort. All it really rated was a Nelson Muntz point and Haha. Which I did, but not via blog.

Probably by general election time, I’ll have more to say.

In the meantime, I mostly blame Mikey.

    Mikey is a witch.

    Burn him!

  3. Michael Lasley Says:

    Haters.

  4. mrspeacock Says:

    – How do you know he’s a witch?

    – Because he looks like one!

We’re in the middle of the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project this week. I got within two feet of the Carters at a VIP event Tuesday night and took a couple of pics, but I didn’t get a chance to meet them. Our closing ceremonies are tonight, but with 2,000 people there (including the Secret Service), I figure my chance to say “hi” has come and gone.

Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood are here this week. We saw them at opening ceremonies, and some are saying he (or they) might perform tonight.

Senator John Edwards was here for opening ceremonies, which I found cool. Even more since he came out in support of Obama today.

Also, the former president of Romania – Emil Constantinescu – is here all week helping out. I’m sure you all remember Emil. 🙂

Outside of that, we’re trying to secure someone to take my place here, trying to sell our house, and counting down the days until we go get to live near a real live witch. Eighty days now, but one still has time to go around the world in eighty days.

Urbino will be glad to know I just started reading a Stanley Hauerwas book (“Resident Aliens,” written with Will Willimon). It will probably force me to post something religious sometime soon, and Urbino will have to talk me down off the Hauerwas ledge.

  6. Terry A. Says:

    “Good king Hauerwas looked down
    From his ledge uneven;
When a poor girl came in sight,
    Dressed like Barbara Eden.”

    Probably my favorite Christmas song.

  7. urbino Says:

Barbara Eden: that’s my kind of witch.

Hauerwas: don’t let him find out you’re hanging out with somebody named “Constantinescu.”

John Edwards: he could show his prowess, be a lion not a mowess, if he only had the nerve.

  8. alsturgeon Says:

LOL!!! I’ve already lost count on the “Constantinian” references!!! 🙂

Had an interesting night tonight, girls and boys.

I thought Carter ditched the Secret Service detail decades ago.

  11. alsturgeon Says:

Definitely not. They’ve been all around this week.

  12. Terry A. Says:

    Secret service agents are witches.

    Burn them!

  13. Slip Says:

For Whom The Bell Tolls is a rather good song 😉
