Sports Day

Let me rip you away from “Bonds-Watch” long enough to argue over the best in MLB so far in 2006. Here’s a starting lineup of this year’s best of the best – feel free to offer your opinions as to who should be replaced as well as how to restructure the batting order.

1. Derek Jeter (SS)
2. Miguel Cabrera (3B)
3. Albert Pujols (1B)
4. Jim Thome (DH)
5. Carlos Lee (LF)
6. Alex Rios (RF)
7. Vernon Wells (CF)
8. Jose Vidro (2B)
9. Victor Martinez (C)

Starting Pitcher: Pedro Martinez
Closer: Jonathan Papelbon

  1. Joe Longhorn Says:

Factor in defense and offense and I’ll take Grady Sizemore over Wells in CF and Joe Crede over Miguel Cabrera at 3B.

BTW… did you notice which SS leads the ML fielding percentage (1.000 in 156 chances!!!!) and double plays (33)? That’s right, Baby. Adam Everett. Those are some ridiculous defensive stats. Especially considering the range that guy has. D is way under-appreciated in the game.

  2. Whitney Says:

    Adam Everett is cute.
And that is my contribution to this conversation.

    p.s. Joe is cuter.

  3. juvenal_urbino Says:

In college, I knew a Whitney who was cuter than either of them.

I haven’t really kept up much this season, yet, but isn’t there some rookie with the Brewers(?) who’s having an incredible season at the plate? Chris something-or-other, maybe?

  4. Al Sturgeon Says:

FYI, this Whitney is much cuter than both Joe and Adam Everett, too.

    Not even close.

  5. Michael Lasley Says:

For pitching, I’d vote for Webb or Mussina. Or any one of the White Sox starters.

And for some just straight up humor — may I suggest the Chicago Cubs. And then for even more hilarity, watching the Dusty Baker post-game interview. Good, good stuff.
