Update on Al

by

Al spoke to his mother this afternoon and said that they are OK. It is my understanding that there was some damage to their church building. They have not been allowed to leave the building though.

GREAT NEWS! Thanks for the update… Godspeed, OSCoC

    Doc,
Thanks for the update. I’m so relieved to hear everyone is OK. That is the most important thing. If you hear any updates on their homes, etc. please keep us posted.

Some of us on here are former members of the Church in Ocean Springs and want to hear any news.

I talked to Al’s mom this morning and in her words she said “They lost everything.” I do not know any details about the other member’s homes or how Al knows about the condition of his house. I did not get to talk to Al’s mother long because other people were calling to ask about Al.

    Doc,

Let us know how we can help.

  5. DeJon Redd Says:

Doc, your updates are greatly appreciated. While I was glad to hear our friends are safe, I am saddened to hear of their losses.

Tell me where and what aide to send.

Sorry, that was my deletion. This new authentication thing keeps posting b/f I’m ready…as I was saying:

I don’t know how easy it will be to send $$ to OS b/c of mail & other general communications issues. I would prefer to send help directly to Al and let him be the judge of where it would be best used, but think that we might be better off going with the Churches of Christ Disaster Relief Effort, Inc.

They were awesome when we had the wildfires out here in 2003. I knw they’re likely on their way to the Gulf Coast as we “speak.” They minister to everyone, not just folks in the Church. They use church buildings to set up & distribute personal hygiene and food boxes and are very, very well organized. During the fires, they stuck around for months afterward, sending semi-trucks with appliances, building supplies, clothes.

    Their information is:
Churches of Christ Disaster Relief, Inc.
    410 Allied Drive
    Nashville, TN 37211
    1-800-541-2841
    website: http://www.disasterreliefeffort.org/

If anyone has better suggestions, I’m open to hearing them. I wish I could just go down there and physically do something.

Al’s mother said cash donations would be the best. Immediately they need water and cleaning supplies, but getting those things to them will be difficult for sometime. Cash will allow them to purchase the things they need in the coming weeks in order to meet their needs.

    You can send donations to:
    Helen Sturgeon
    c/o 7th & Mueller Church of Christ
    1000 S. 7th St.
    Paragould, AR 72450

I was wondering what Al had to say, if anything, about other members of the church. My parents are in Alabama and fine, and my grandparents are fine (although my brother stayed behind at my parents house in North Biloxi and we have no way of communicating with him). Did most of the other church members evacuate?
